About

JACOB BREZINSKI
THE TEST GUY
I really love my job. Every year I get to help a new bunch of students take their best test, apply, and get accepted to wonderful colleges and graduate schools.  It's an exciting time of life full of possibility, and I love helping students through it.
It can also be a scary time of life.  A lot rides on admissions exams: school selection, admission chances, scholarships, and even self-esteem.  A lot rides on writing the "right" essay and putting together the best application.
I started teaching tests in 2006 for one of the "big companies".  I did it off and on, for friends, while working in finance, until late 2010 when I began teaching full time.  I only teach online from my home studio, and I am delighted to have had students from all over the country.
I live in Pittsburgh with my fiance Alexa, our daughter Samantha and our two dogs (teaching assistants) Duke & Harper

Philosophy

One principle drives us: customization. We teach one-on-one for a reason.
We have never met two students who take tests the same way.  Every student has their own unique strengths and weaknesses.  Every student has their own instincts and habits for dealing with subjects, tests formats, No single strategy is optimal for all students.  That's why I only teach students one-on-one.
We are student-centered.  The needs of the student dictate what we spend time on and what strategies we use.  We continually reassess, adjust, and innovate to do the absolute best we can to meet the student where they are.
Good test prep is more than tricks, tips, and content. Knowing the content of the test only gets you partway; you need strategies that are optimal for you, built for you. You also have to feel comfortable with the exam and confident in your abilities.
Good academic tutoring is not a repeat of class. Quality tutoring finds the gaps in the student’s understanding that keeps them from progressing and addresses those gaps.
Out approach for college applications isn't much different.  We help students organize themselves and manage deadlines.  We discuss potential reviewers and how to ask for recommendation letters, how to prepare for and excel at interviews, & how to write excellent essays and a resume.  For most students, the essay(s) are the roughest part and provide the best opportunity to stand out to colleges. Along the way, I teach students about organization, professional communication, interviewing, and writing.
We are holistic. We believe how you feel impacts your performance on standardized tests, in the classroom, and in the college application process. We want you to believe in you, and we’ll work to foster that belief.
We encourage student contact, and we love hearing from parents.  I'm very interested in helping students discover the value of persistence, grit, and organization.
I work with test anxiety, and I routinely work with students with ADHD, ASD, processing disorders, and students who have had closed head injuries.
